Marcus Roberts, piano; Roland Guerin, bass; Jason Marsalis, drums Berliner Philharmoniker Seiji Ozawa Recorded at the annual summer concert of the Berlin Philharmonic at the Waldbühne in Berlin 2003, this DVD captures the atmosphere of an open-air Gershwin night in full while also allowing a closer look at the musicians and the conductor. With an audience of over 20000 one of the worlds best orchestras played the popular music of George Gershwin, including the famous Rhapsody in Blue and the popular film music suite An American in Paris. Conducted by Seiji Ozawa one of the longstanding stars in the classical world - the Berlin Philharmonic was joined by jazz pianist Marcus Roberts and his Trio, whose album Gershwin For Lovers stayed in the Top 10 on Billboards jazz chart for half a year. Together they created a magical fusion of classical music and jazz bringing an imaginative mix of styles into the swing of Gershwins music. This is me trying to play Summertime, a classical jazz tune composed by George Gershwin (and made famous by Miles Davis) on a home made french horn. I didn't have the score for thi song, so I tried it from memory. The key of this "instrument" is B. Have fun. Este sou eu tentando tocar Summertime, uma obra clássica do jazz composta por George Gershwin (e famosa na interpretação de Miles Davis) numa trompa natural feita em casa . Eu não tinha a partitura da música, então foi de memória mesmo. O tom desse "instrumento" é Si. Divirtam-se.

This appearance was an exclusive solo concert in Kansas City, Missouri. It was one of a series of concerts sponsored by Kansas City Ragtime Revelry. Mr. Dowling is a competition veteran and frequent prizewinner, he has won first place in the San Antonio International Keyboard Competition, the Louise D. McMahon International Music Competition (OK), the Oklahoma Symphony Concerto Competition, the Shreveport (LA) Symphony/Wideman Concerto Competition, the Midland/Odessa (TX) National Young Artist Audition, the Brazos Valley (TX) Symphony Young Artists Competition, and the Houston Tuesday Musical Club Competition among others, and was declared the National Winner of the prestigious Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Artist Competition. While studying at Yale University, Dowling was honored with the Lockwood Award for performing the best recital and the Simonds Award for outstanding solo and ensemble playing. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from The University of Texas and has held positions as Artist-in-Residence at Lamar University in Texas and at The Harid Conservatory of Music in Boca Raton, Florida. Recently he has performed in Carnegie Hall with Paquito D'Rivera, in a broadcast VOA concert in Washington, DC, and the Panama Jazz Fesival,Kennedy Center and the White House conference on Jazz Education. . George Gershwin - Rhapsody in Blue (1/2)
Born the son of Russian-Jewish immigrants into the vibrant life of Manhattan, George Gershwin created much of the twentieth century's musical highlights, with an endless stream of hit shows. His fascination with classical music, and his fusion of many varied musical forms like jazz, blues and ragtime, brought us the likes of Porgy and Bess and Rhapsody in Blue. Rhapsody in Blue -: (running time : 16:57) Courtesy goes to Richard Hayman and Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was in 1924 that Gershwin responded to a commission from Paul Whiteman, a champion of symphonic jazz, for a concerto for piano and jazz band. The result miss Rhapsody in Blue, a significant step in a search for a true American musical identity. The work was orchestrated by Whiteman' s arranger, the composer Ferde Grofé. Whiteman himself had enjoyed on earlier career as a viola-player in major American orchestras in Denver and San Francisco, before becoming one of the best known of the band-leaders of the time. Gershwin's jazz concerto was given its first performance at Whiteman's first concert, given at the Aeolian Hall in New York, where it won success in surroundings that seemed distinctly unfavourable, as Whiteman attempted to convince an unsympathetic audience of the viability of his form of jazz.
