Sergio Vellatti - Nessun Dorma
Sergio Vellatti - Nessun Dorma "Nessun Dorma (None Shall Sleep)" is an aria from the final act of Giacomo Puccini's opera, "Turandot", and has become one of the best-known tenor arias in all of opera. Many singers of all genre's have covered this powerful aria since the infancy of "Turondot" (1926), including: Mario Lanza, Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras, Michael Bolton, Aretha Franklin, and Italian pop star, Mina. However, the song is most commonly identified with no other than the late, great tenor, Luciano Pavarotti. "Nessun Dorma" achieved pop status after Luciano Pavarotti's recording of it was used as the theme song of BBC television's coverage of the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy. It subsequently reached #2 on the UK Singles Chart, the highest placing ever by a classical recording. I am not a tenor, nor am I an opera singer, but I have been enamored with this beautiful aria for a very long time and thought I'd give it a try. I hope you can appreciate my rendition of "Nessun Dorma". Thank you all for your continued encouragement and support! No one shall sleep! Even you, o Princess, in your cold room, watch the stars, that tremble with love and with hope. But my secret is hidden within me, my name no one shall know... No!...No!... On your mouth I will tell it when the light ...

The song was first heard on her album 'Surfacing' in 1998, and would later be used for the 'City of Angels' soundtrack. The song is about Jonathan Melvoin - the keyboardist from the Smashing Pumpkins, who died of a heroin overdose in 1996. Cover examples: Katherine Jenkins, Yulia, Angelis May It Be by Enya The lady who needs no introduction has often been approached to score films (most famously for 'Titanic') and she readily declines, but she offered up this gem for Peter Jackson's 'Lord of The Rings' debut. Cover examples: Hayley Westenra, Angelis, Celtic Woman Nella Fantasia by Sarah Brightman This is an adaptation of Ennio Morricone's 'Gabriel's Oboe' from the film 'The Mission'. Brightman was a fan of the piece, and was desperate to adapt it. For years Brightman wrote to Morricone begging permission to turn it into a song, but he kept refusing. Determined, Brightman continued until he finally relented. Apparently because he was sick and tired of her asking. Brightman wrote the lyrics in English and had them translated into Italian. It's now one of the most covered songs in crossover. Cover examples: Russell Watson, Paul Potts, Il Divo Pie Jesu by Sarah Brightman and Paul Miles-Kingston ...
