Edvard Grieg - "En Svane" (A Swan) - Håkan Hagegård
Edvard Grieg - "En Svane" (A Swan) - Håkan Hagegård "En Svane" (A Swan) is one of Edvard Grieg's most well known songs. It is one of six settings of poems by Norway's great poet and playwright, Henrik Ibsen, that comprise Grieg's Opus 25. It is sung here in Norwegian by the wonderful Swedish baritone Håkan Hagegård. I toners føden du slutted din bane. Du sang i døden; du var dog en svane! Henrik Ibsen (1828-1906) A Swan My snowy-white swan, So silently gliding, By no sound eer confiding Your voice of singing. Peace bestowing, you Elfin in hiding. Ever watchful, oer Deep waters gliding. A last farewell, then, When promises given Were meant to be riven Yes, then it sounded! In songs first sighing Your journey was ended. You sang in dying Ah, truly a swan, then, A swan, then! Håkan Hagegård (baritone) Warren Jones (piano)
