www.onlineguitaracademy.net - The opening movement in Mussorgsky's suite for piano, the Promenade depicts a man who roams an exhibition honoring a deceased artist, searching for a treasured work that he had admired in the past. The entire orchestral suite describes the paintings that the man sees as he browses through the gallery. Pictures at an Exhibition is Mussorgsky's tribute to a dear friend, the artist Viktor Hartmann, who had passed away suddenly the year before Mussorgsky composed the suite. Its most famous incarnation is the orchestral suite arranged by Maurice Ravel. This guitar transcription takes the work back to its roots as a suite for a solo instrument. The classical guitar, with its plethora of tone colors, dynamic variations, and range of pitches, is more than equal to the task. MUSSORGSKY: Pictures at an Exhibition (Ravel Orchestration)
Friends, Please check out this beautiful book of poetry: www.amazon.com - It comes in four different covers - Hope you enjoy it :) Promenade Pictures at an Exhibition (Russian: Картинки с выставки -- Воспоминание о Викторе Гартмане, Kartínki s výstavki -- Vospominániye o Víktore Gártmane, Pictures from an Exhibition -- a Remembrance of Viktor Hartmann) is a famous suite of ten piano pieces composed by Modest Mussorgsky in 1874. It is generally acknowledged to be Mussorgsky's greatest solo piano composition, and has become a showpiece for virtuoso pianists. It has also become known through various orchestrations and arrangements produced by other musicians and composers (see: Versions by other hands, below, for further discussion), with Ravel's arrangement being the most recorded and performed. The version by Maurice Ravel (also produced in 1922, to a commission by Serge Koussevitzky) is a virtuoso effort by a master colourist, and has proved the most popular in the concert hall and on record. Ravel does, however, omit the Promenade between "Samuel" Goldenberg und "Schmuÿle" and Limoges. (We appreciate Wikipaedia's contributions in the descriptions here)

È strano! È strano! In core
scolpiti ho quegli accenti!
Saria per me sventura un serio amore?
Che risolvi, o turbata anima mia?
Null'uomo ancora t'accendeva -- O gioia
ch'io non conobbi, esser amata amando!
E sdegnarla poss'io
per l'aride follie del viver mio?
Ah, fors'è lui che l'anima
solinga ne' tumulti
godea sovente pingere
de' suoi colori occulti!
Lui che modesto e vigile
all'egre soglie ascese,
e nuova febbre accese,
destandomi all'amor.
A quell'amor ch'è palpito
dell'universo intero,
misterioso, altero,
croce e delizia al cor!
Follie! follie! Delirio vano è questo!
Povera donna, sola,
abbandonata in questo
popoloso deserto
che appellano Parigi.
Che spero or più?
Che far degg'io? Gioire,
di voluttà ne' vortici perir.
Gioir, gioir!
Sempre libera degg'io
folleggiare di gioia in gioia,
vo' che scorra il viver mio
pei sentieri del piacer.
Nasca il giorno, o il giorno muoia,
sempre lieta ne' ritrovi,

Greatest Classical Music
I use the term "Classical" lightly here. Here are 18 extracts from what I think are some ofthe most exciting, spine tingling orchestral pieces ever. A lot is left out of this list - Beethoven's Ninth, for one. The pieces are (in no particular order): 1. Verdi - Messa da Requiem - Dies Irae, Dies Illa 2. Verdi - Messa da Requiem - Tuba Mirum 3. Bizet - Carmen - Procession of the Toreadors 4. Beethoven - Symphony No. 5 - Allegro con Brio 5. Prokofiev - Montagues and Capulets 6. Orff - Carmina Burana 7. Copland - Fanfare for the Common Man 8. Sandstrom - Motorbike Concerto - Introduction 9. Schoenberg - Chamber Symphony No. 1 (Finale) 10. Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring - Dances of the Young Girls 11. Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring - Glorification of the Chosen One 12. Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring - Sacrificial Dance 13. Borodin - Prince Igor - Polovtsian Dances 14. Rossini - William Tell - Overture (Fanfare) In there are some old favourites but also many new pieces you probably won't have heard ... (If you really want to enjoy this music, play it through speakers and whack the bass up high. Most of them feature drums and timpani!)

Beethoven Fur Elise - Bagatelle in A minor - Piano
visit my webpage - www.joolsscott.co.uk "Für Elise" (German for "For Elise") is the popular name of the bagatelle in A minor WoO 59, marked poco moto, a piece of music for solo piano by Ludwig van Beethoven, dated 27 April 1810. Beethoven scholars are not entirely certain who "Elise" was. The most reasonable theory is that Beethoven originally titled his work "Für Therese", Therese being Therese Malfatti von Rohrenbach zu Dezza (1792-1851), whom Beethoven intended to marry in 1810. However, she declined Beethoven's proposal. In 1816 Therese, who was the daughter of the Viennese merchant Jacob Malfatti von Rohrenbach (1769-1829), married the Austrian nobleman and state official Wilhelm von Droßdik (1771-1859). When the work was published in 1865, the discoverer of the piece Ludwig Nohl mistranscribed the illegible title as "Für Elise". The autograph is lost. The piece begins 3 with a right-hand theme accompanied by arpeggios in the left hand; the harmonies used are A minor and E major. The next section maintains the same texture, but broadens the chord progression to include C major and G major. A lighter section follows, written in the key of F major, then a few bars in C major. The first section returns without alteration; next, the piece moves into an agitated theme set over a pedal point on A. After a gauntlet of arpeggios, the main theme returns, and the piece quietly ends in its starting key of A minor, with an Authentic Cadence. Adelaide (Beethoven) An die ferne ...

Rachmaninoff - Vocalise For Violin
Title : Sergei Rachmaninov, Vocalise (Songs (14), Op. 34: no 14)
From Wikipedia,Vocalise, Op. 34 No. 14 is a song by Sergei Rachmaninoff, published in 1912 as the last of his Fourteen Songs, Opus 34. Written for voice (soprano or tenor) with piano accompaniment, it contains no words, but is sung using any one vowel (of the singer's choosing). It was dedicated to soprano Antonina Nezhdanova.
Although the original publication stipulates that the song may be sung by either soprano or tenor voice, it is usually chosen to be performed by a soprano. As with many classical vocal pieces, it is transcribed in a variety of keys, allowing the performer to choose a vocal range more suitable to their natural voice, so that artists who may not have the higher range of a soprano can nevertheless perform the song. When sung by a tenor, it is sung an octave lower than the same key when sung by a soprano.
