Uchida conducts Mozart's Piano Concerto #20 - Allegro I
Mitsuko Uchida conducts and performs. Below is a review, reprinted in the DVD insert for this performance. Two and a half centuries after Mozart's birth, Mitsuko Uchida comes as close as any pianist, of the present or the past, to giving his music a quality of contemporaneity, without recourse to exaggeration of any kind, without a hint of "historicity." There is no pedantry in her playing, no self-conscious didacticism, no straight imitation of 18th century practices. She is, however, musicologically highly informed, and characteristically complements this knowledge with practical experience. (cont. on part II)

ANTONIO PAPPANO CONDUCTS ROSSINI: STABAT MATER
ORDER YOUR COPY HERE: links.emi.com ... Award-winning conductor Antonio Pappano and his acclaimed Roman orchestra the Accademia di Santa Cecilia release Rossini's Stabat Mater. The recording includes star soloists Anna Netrebko, Joyce DiDonato, Lawrence Brownlee and Ildebrando d'Arcangelo. Although Rossini focused heavily on opera, he was still able to find some time to undertake commissions of a non-operatic nature. Supreme among these was to be the Stabat Mater. "I would say that the Stabat Mater - the picture of the Virgin Mary standing below the crucifix watching her son die and this beautiful set of prayers or scene setting is sublimely put to music by Rossini." says Maestro Pappano. Pappano's recent releases with the Roman orchestra includes the award-wining and critically-acclaimed Verdi Requiem, Respighi's 'Roman Trilogy', the Tchaikovsky Symphonies 4-6 and Puccini's opera 'Madama Butterfly' with Angela Gheorghiu and Jonas Kaufmann which won Gheorghiu the Female Artist of the Year honour at this year's Classical Brit Awards. Pappano himself won the Critics' Choice award for his recording of the Verdi Requiem.

WSU Brass and Organ Recital
Organized by

Wiedemann Recital Hall

April 8, 1996
Well, nobody could ever accuse either myself, or my good friend Ian Schwindt of not being pure, unadulterated "brassholes." We were very fortunate to have not only great friends at WSU who were like-minded in our pursuits of great brass music, but also having at our disposal an amazingly talented church organist, my mother Genevieve Bishop!
It should go without saying that this concert was extremely enjoyable to perform. I'm terribly sorry that the video quality of this concert is very poor. I did, however, lay the digital sound over the video, so at least the audio is acceptable. Believe it nor not, this entire recital was given after having only one hour-long rehearsal....a full week before the recital! I believe that is a testament to the outstanding musicians and friends we had at WSU.
Not only that, but how lucky were we to have a venue like Wiedemann Recital Hall -- a building solely constructed to house the Great Marcussen Organ? Built in 1986-87, it was the first Marcussen organ built in North America by the Danish firm. For more information, please see:
