- Classical music composed by Francisco Tárrega www.jimgreeninger.com - Guitar/classical, Recuerdos de la Alhambra, by Francisco Tarrega. Jim studied for several years with Maestro Andres Segovia. The guitar Jim is playing was built by himself and was recorded directly from the Baggs pickup via wireless transmitter and a live performance mic in the hall. This is because of the number of children and noise in the theater. It seemed to be the best way to accomplish a good recording, however, it does often sound like you are directly next to the guitar. Recuerdos de la Alhambra is a classical guitar piece composed by the great Spanish composer and guitarist Francisco Tárrega. Recuerdos de la Alhambra shares a title with the Spanish language translation of Washington Irving's 1832 book "Tales of the Alhambra", which he wrote during his four year stay in Spain. Eric Henderson has been touching souls for many years with his unique ability with the guitar. It was clear that Eric had a calling when he first picked up the instrument at an very early age. Since his mother, a classically trained pianist, first let Eric use her guitar when he was only 6 years old, playing the guitar and Classical music, been Hendersons passion. He was soon ready for his own guitar, which he mastered so well. At age13, Eric Henderson was invited to Spain to become one of only 3 people to study privately with the master guitarist Andres Segovia. Henderson spent the next 4 years in Spain learning the intricacies of the classical guitar, while playing as much as 12 hours per day. In addition to Andres Segovia, Henderson has studied guitar with Christopher Parkening, Angel Romero, Ernesto Bitetti, Emilio Pujol and Antonia Morales. Well, nobody could ever accuse either myself, or my good friend Ian Schwindt of not being pure, unadulterated "brassholes." We were very fortunate to have not only great friends at WSU who were like-minded in our pursuits of great brass music, but also having at our disposal an amazingly talented church organist, my mother Genevieve Bishop!
It should go without saying that this concert was extremely enjoyable to perform. I'm terribly sorry that the video quality of this concert is very poor. I did, however, lay the digital sound over the video, so at least the audio is acceptable. Believe it nor not, this entire recital was given after having only one hour-long rehearsal....a full week before the recital! I believe that is a testament to the outstanding musicians and friends we had at WSU.
Not only that, but how lucky were we to have a venue like Wiedemann Recital Hall -- a building solely constructed to house the Great Marcussen Organ? Built in 1986-87, it was the first Marcussen organ built in North America by the Danish firm. For more information, please see:

All the pieces of the "Wedding Suite" were arranged by Ian Schwindt for his own Wedding Ceremony of July 1, 1995. Yes, in fact the wedding had three antiphonal brass choirs and organ. It was the greatest wedding music I'd ever heard until this last May, when I put together the greatest wedding music of ALL-TIMES for my baby sister Katie for her wedding day.

Arroyos de la Alhambra
Arroyos de la Alhambra is written by Angel Barrios. He was born in Grenada in 1882, the son of a flamenco guitarist. Ángel Barrios (as he is known) studied classical guitar and composition in his native city, but concentrated on a career as a professional guitar. He later studied in Paris, and though he was to be a touring artist, unlike many other Spaniards, he did remain a national musician. He founded the Trio Iberia in 1900 for which he made many arrangements, and they enjoyed a considerable vogue in Europe. He was quite a productive composer in his younger years, but the Spanish Civil War had a considerable affect on him, and he wrote little in later life. His catalogue of works includes opera, zarzuelas, a number of orchestral scores and solo works for piano and guitar. They are all written in a style influenced by the Romantic era, and relied heavily on a populist Spanish folk influence. He died 1964. I hope you like it... I do :-)
