Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart- Requiem in D minor, K626 (FULL PERFORMANCE)
WA Mozart's Requiem Mass, full and uncut. Completed by Franz Xaver Sussmayer. __ Mozart's Requiem Mass (Mass #19, K626) in D Minor, written in 1791. 14 Movements. Approx 55 minutes typically. Scored for: SATB Choir SATB Soloists 2 Fagoti 2 Basset Horns 2 Trumpets in D 3 Trombones (ATB) Timpani Strings (2 Violin, Viola, Cello) Baso Continuo and Organo Movements: Introitus Kyrie Dies Irae Tuba Mirum Rex Tremendae Recordare Confutatis Maledictis Lacrimosa Domine Iesu Christe Hostias Sanctus Benedictus Agnus Dei Lux Aeterna Possibly the most mysterious classical work ever writ, this mass is not truly of Mozart by himself, but a collaboration between four composers: Sussmayer, Eybler, Freystadler, and Mozart himself. After falling ill, Mozart passed away during the writing of the Requiem- his final pieces written were bars 1-8 of the "Lacrimosa" (26:29). From there, Freystadler placed in a ninth and tenth measure, while Eybler worked on the Offertorium movements (Domine Iesu, Hostias). Soon after, the two composers abandoned the Requiem, leaving it to Sussmayer, a close friend and former pupil of the Court Composer, Antonio Salieri, to see to the completion of the mass. He removed the "Freystadler Measures" from the lacrimose, and completed the mass, claiming the Agnus Dei and Sanctus to his own hand. The rest is believed to be completed using "Scraps of Paper" left by Mozart, which had sketches for the remaining movements. Mozart's cause of death is still unknown. Since ...

Trois Gymnopedies -Erik Satie
The Gymnopedies, published in Paris starting in 1888, are three piano compositions written by French composer and pianist, Erik Satie.
These short, atmospheric pieces are written in 3/4 time, with each sharing a common theme and structure. Collectively, the Gymnopedies are regarded as the precursors to modern ambient music - gentle yet somewhat eccentric pieces which, when composed, defied the classical tradition. For instance, the first few bars feature a disjunct chordal theme in the bass - first, a G-major 7th in the bass, and then a B-minor chord, also in the lower register. Then comes the one-note theme in D major. Although the collection of chords at first seems too complex to be harmonious, the melody soon imbues the work with a soothing atmospheric quality.
Satie himself used the term "furniture music" to refer to some of his pieces, implying they could be used as mood-setting background music. However, Satie used this term to refer to only some of his later, 20th century compositions, without specific reference to the Gymnopedies as background music. From the second half of the 20th century on, the Gymnopedies were often erroneously described as part of Satie's body of furniture music, perhaps due to John Cage's interpretation of them.

Robert Schumann - Dichterliebe, Op. 48 Pt 1-4 Fischer-Dieskau Salzbu
I received a kind request (thank you!) to upload some of this performance of Dichterliebe and decided that this would be a perfect presentation to honor Fischer-Dieskau's 84th birthday on May 28. This performance comes from Fischer-Dieskau's debut solo recital at the Salzburg Festival on August 13, 1956. His partner at the piano is Gerald Moore. "Dichterliebe", 'The Poet's Love' (composed 1840), is the best-known song cycle of Robert Schumann (Op. 48). The texts for the 16 songs come from the "Lyrisches Intermezzo" of Heinrich Heine, composed 1822-1823, published as part of the poet's "Das Buch der Lieder". The very natural, almost hyper-sensitive poetical affections of the poems are beautifully mirrored in Schumann's settings, with their miniaturist chromaticism and suspensions. The poet's love is a hothouse of nuanced responses to the delicate language of flowers, dreams and fairy-tales. Schumann adapts the words of the poems to his needs for the songs, sometimes repeating phrases and often rewording a line to supply the desired cadence. Notes from Wikipedia. English translations of the Heine poems by Paul Hindemith. Dichterliebe, Op. 48 Part 1, Songs 1-6 Im wunderschönen Monat Mai, Als alle Knospen sprangen, Da ist in meinem Herzen Die Liebe aufgegangen. William Bajzek plays Three Sor Studies on Classical Guitar
I'm planning to make a series of videos between now and the end of April, in which I work on a short piece for a day and then film&post it. My main focus will be on musicality, but I have a few other goals: 1) Learn to pull together pieces and interpretations more quickly 2) Produce a demo cd to send to senior centers and other gig venues 3) Watch my movements, facial expressions, etc, and learn what I can from them 4) Get more comfortable with recording. I'm coming out of two weeks with flu & bronchitis, and haven't played much recently. I was just sight-reading these, although I have worked on them in the past. Still, I'm fairly pleased with how these performances turned out, so I decided to make this public for now. I will probably take this down eventually because I want to rerecord the Opus 44 pieces as part of different groupings and with more preparation. Here are three studies by Fernando Sor: Opus 44, no 11 Opus 44, no 9 Opus 31, no 4 I've been trying to come up with a good recording method. I used my MacBook's built-in iSight for video and my Edirol R-09HR as the audio source. I then imported into Garageband and added a bit of reverb. I wanted to upload a large-size movie file so the audio wouldn't get downgraded too much. Obviously, it didn't come out great because I've been stretched! I'm not sure why that happened, but it's probably my fault. I don't feel like fixing this one but I'll try to avoid that next time. A benefit of this method is that I can record ...

Mozart - Dies Irae (Day of Wrath) Requiem Mass in D Minor II
images by Omar Taboada vimeo.com Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, was a prolific and influential composer of the Classical era. He composed over 600 works, many acknowledged as pinnacles of symphonic, concertante, chamber, piano, operatic, and choral music. He is among the most enduringly popular of classical composers. Mozart learned voraciously from others, and developed a brilliance and maturity of style that encompassed the light and graceful along with the dark and passionate. His influence on subsequent Western art music is profound. Beethoven wrote his own early compositions in the shadow of Mozart, of whom Joseph Haydn wrote that "posterity will not see such a talent again in 100 years" The Requiem Mass in D minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was composed in Vienna in 1791 and left unfinished at the composer's death. A completion by Franz Xaver Süssmayr was delivered to Count Franz von Walsegg, who had anonymously commissioned the piece for a requiem Mass to commemorate the February 14 anniversary of his wife's death.

Mozart's Requiem Mass in D Minor II - Dies Irae
John Eliot Gardiner conducts the English Baroque Soloists and the Monteverdi Choir. This performance was filmed at the Palau de la Musica Catalana, Barcelona in Dec. 1991. A Requiem Mass in the Roman Catholic tradition is a service designed to pray for the souls of the departed. The parts of the liturgy that are meant to be sung are what constitute all Requiem Mass compositions, including Mozart's. The structure is as follows: 1. Introit 2. Kyrie 3. Sequence: a. Dies irae b. Tuba mirum c. Rex tremendae d. Recordare e. Confutatis f. Lacrimosa 4. Offertory: a. Domine Jesu Christe b. Hostias 5. Sanctus 6. Benedictus 7. Agnus Dei 8. Lux Aeterna Mozart died before finishing the Requiem Mass, and his wife Constanze gave the task of finishing the work to a pupil of Mozart's named Süssmayr. From the Sanctus onward, the Requiem is the creation of Süssmayr, though he did use portions of the Introit and Kyrie for the Lux Aeterna. Despite, or maybe partially because of, the controversy surrounding this Requiem Mass, it is widely regarded as Mozart's greatest masterpiece. Rachmaninoff - Vocalise For Violin
Title : Sergei Rachmaninov, Vocalise (Songs (14), Op. 34: no 14)
From Wikipedia,Vocalise, Op. 34 No. 14 is a song by Sergei Rachmaninoff, published in 1912 as the last of his Fourteen Songs, Opus 34. Written for voice (soprano or tenor) with piano accompaniment, it contains no words, but is sung using any one vowel (of the singer's choosing). It was dedicated to soprano Antonina Nezhdanova.
Although the original publication stipulates that the song may be sung by either soprano or tenor voice, it is usually chosen to be performed by a soprano. As with many classical vocal pieces, it is transcribed in a variety of keys, allowing the performer to choose a vocal range more suitable to their natural voice, so that artists who may not have the higher range of a soprano can nevertheless perform the song. When sung by a tenor, it is sung an octave lower than the same key when sung by a soprano.

Tchaikovsky Trio: Heifetz, Rubinstein, Piatigorsky (part 1)
Out of the hundreds and thousands of different classical recordings I have heard in my lifetime, I can safely say this is one of my favorites. Heifetz is the greatest violinist the world has ever known and this is one of his best recordings (if you don't believe me, just listen to variation #4). Part 1: First Movement

Best of Classical Piano (part 1)
A few of my favourite pieces for piano. I know some of the clips in both 'Part 1' and 'Part 2' might actually be considered New Wave, Romantic, etc. rather than classical, but the term 'classical' just sums them all up into a category everyone can recognise. 1) Beethoven: "Appassionata" Piano Sonata in F minor, No. 23, Op. 57 - Third Movement 2) Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 18 3) Chopin: Ballade No. 3 in A flat major, Op. 47 4) Rachmaninoff: Prelude in C sharp minor, Op. 3, No. 2 5) Beethoven: "Appassionata" Piano Sonata in F minor, No. 23, Op. 57 - First Movement 6) Scriabin: Etude in D sharp minor, Op. 8, No. 12 7) Satie: Gnossienne 1
