Fritz Lehmann Mendelssohn Hebrides overture Berliner Phil 54
If you want to contact me, try : twitter.com Fritz Lehmann (1904-1956) had the bad luck to die just before the stereo age. Is this the reason he is forgotten by the general public? Anyway, here is a strong and brilliantly played Hebrides Overture from Felix Mendelssohn. I de-clicked and eq-ed the record myself. For more classical mp3's, take a look at by blog with the Dutch Radio 4. It's in Dutch, but at the bottom of the pages are my transfers of pre 1958 Lp's. Please write on the blog what you think of the recordings! Enjoy!

Kreisler plays Kreisler-Liebesleid
This is Fritz Kreisler playing his own peice Liebeslied (sorry I don't have a video). I am in love with Kreisler's sound. His playing is so romantic, elegant, and beautiful that he must be regarded as one of the great violinists of all time. Plus, who can argue with a violinist who wrote the damn peice in the first place?

Lecuona - Rapsodia Cubana (on Cuban Airs)
Rapsodia Cubana (on Cuban Airs) Composer: Ernesto Lecuona (1895-1963) Performers: Thomas Tirino (piano) & Polish National Radio Symphony Conductor: Michael Bartos Ernesto Lecuona y Casado (August 6, 1895 Guanabacoa, Havana, Cuba - November 29, 1963 Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain) was a Cuban composer and pianist of Basque descent, and world-wide fame. He composed over six hundred pieces, mostly in the Cuban vein, and was a pianist of exceptional quality. Lecuona started early studying piano under his sister Ernestina, a famed composer in her own right. He later studied at the Peyrellade Conservatoire under Antonio Saavedra and the famous Joaquin Nin. Lecuona graduated from the National Conservatory of Havana with a Gold Medal for interpretation when he was sixteen. And he performed outside of Cuba at the Aeolian Hall (New York) in 1916. He first traveled to Spain in 1924 on a concert tour with violinist Maria de la Torre; his successful piano recitals in 1928 at Paris coincided with a rise in interest in Cuban music. He was a prolific composer of songs and music for stage and film. His works consisted of zarzuela, Afro-Cuban and Cuban rhythms, suites and many songs which are still very famous. They include Siboney (Canto Siboney), Malagueña and The Breeze And I (Andalucía). In 1942, his great hit, Always in my heart (Siempre en mi Corazon) was nominated for an Oscar for Best Song; however, it lost to White Christmas. Lecuona was a master of the symphonic ...

A Clockwork Orange - Extended Theme & Title Music
Originally written more than 315 years ago by the great English composer Henry Purcell (1659 - 1695) for the Funeral March of Queen Mary II (Died 28th December 1694) - This 17th Century Classic Processional Funeral March was originally scored for 4 trumpets, and then adapted for the Main Opening Title Theme Music of the 1971 film "A Clockwork Orange" which was directed by Stanley Kubrick. The electronic synthesized soundtrack was orchestrated by Wendy Carlos, together with Rachel Elkind, including adaptations of several other extremely well known classical music compositions including several parts of Beethoven's Chorale 9th Symphony. The full soundtrack also includes excerpts from the William Tell Overture, the Thieving Magpie, Land of Hope and Glory, and the well-known 1st and 4th Pomp and Circumstance Marches composed by Sir Edward Elgar. Wendy Carlos has been one of my musical inspirations and role models since my teenage years with her revolutionary & futuristic Moog Synthesizer adaptations that include "Switched-on-Bach" from way back in 1968, and of course the highly creative soundtrack for "A Clockwork Orange". And Congratulations to Wendy Carlos on her 70th Birthday on 14th November 2009! Pearls Before Breakfast
Can one of the nation's great musicians cut through the fog of a D.C. rush hour? Let's find out.

HE EMERGED FROM THE METRO AT THE L'ENFANT PLAZA STATION AND POSITIONED HIMSELF AGAINST A WALL BESIDE A TRASH BASKET. By most measures, he was nondescript: a youngish white man in jeans, a long-sleeved T-shirt and a Washington Nationals baseball cap. From a small case, he removed a violin. Placing the open case at his feet, he shrewdly threw in a few dollars and pocket change as seed money, swiveled it to face pedestrian traffic, and began to play.
It was 7:51 a.m. on Friday, January 12, the middle of the morning rush hour. In the next 43 minutes, as the violinist performed six classical pieces, 1,097 people passed by. Almost all of them were on the way to work, which meant, for almost all of them, a government job. L'Enfant Plaza is at the nucleus of federal Washington, and these were mostly mid-level bureaucrats with those indeterminate, oddly fungible titles: policy analyst, project manager, budget officer, specialist, facilitator, consultant.

Classical Medley by Buddy Greene on the Harmonica
SINCE PEOPLE KEEP ASKING, HERE ARE THE SONGS THAT HE PLAYED ACCORDING TO COMMENTERS:
1ST: 'Jesu, Joy Of Man's Desiring' by Johann Sebastian Bach.
2ND: Mozart's Piano Sonata in C, K. 545 - Allegro
3RD: Rossini's William Tell overture (known to most as the theme from 'The Lone Ranger')
WOW. He's so good on the harmonica!Buddy has talent pouring out from his ears. He also can sing, play the guitar, and he writes music (he wrote the music for 'Mary Did You Know') but he's most known for his Harmonica. Not to mention he is a really funny, cool guy.

Fur Elise (by Ludwig van Beethoven)
Fur Elise aka Bagatelle in A Minor Though originally written in 1810, "Fur Elise" (aka Bagatelle in a minor), was not published until 1865, 40 years after the composer's death. It was believed that this composition was intended for Therese Malfatti, and was supposed to have been entitled "Fur Therese" (For Therese), a woman Beethoven once courted and proposed marriage to. Malfatti declined in accepting Beethoven's invitation, however, and some have hypothesized that this musical manuscript titled was then changed and dedicated to "Elise" instead. Regardless, this evocative composition was inspired by the intense and effusive emotions provoked by love. And it is with this romantic passion which perhaps distinguishes Beethoven from his classical era counterparts. ***Requested by a listener earlier today*** ***Thanks to my listener who requested this, and brought back memories: 9 years old. Part of one of the 1st solo recitals performed at a state college :)***
