Fifty Shades of Grey. Chopin. Op 28 Prelude No. 4 (Suffocation). (Photos by Pianopod)

This piece of music was featured in the book "Fifty Shades of Grey" by E L James. We must be eternally grateful to Miss James for introducing millions of readers to the beautiful music of Chopin. I took these photos in a forest in Gougane Barra, West Cork, Ireland. Checkout my photographs http://500px.com/PByrne This piece was also featured in the movie "The Notebook" (2004), a romantic drama film directed by Nick Cassavetes, based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks. The movie stars Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams as a young couple who fall in love during the early 1940s. Their story is narrated from the present day by an elderly man played by James Garner, telling the tale to a fellow nursing home resident, played by Gena Rowlands. Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams won the MTV award for the "Best Kiss" for one of the scenes in the movie. Sergio Tiempo (born February 24, 1972) is a Venezuelan-Argentine classical pianist. He has studied under some of the best known pianists. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Sergio Tiempo began playing the piano as at an early age. His first teacher was his mother, Lyl Tiempo, who began teaching him before he turned three. He achieved early acclaim by appearing on Argentine television when he was four years old and gave concerts in London and France at age seven. In 1980, at age eight, he received special recognition at the Ealing Music Festival. In 1986, he was awarded the Alex De Vries prize. That same year, a live recording of his performance at his Concertgebouw recital was released. Since his emergence in 1986, Tiempo has performed and recorded regularly all over the world. His tours have included frequent trips to Japan, recitals in many of the greatest European concert halls, and performances in numerous North American cities. He frequently participates in music festivals, including the Progetto Martha Argerich, where he performs every year. He also performs regularly with his sister, pianist Karin Lechner. Among his most significant chamber-music collaborations are recordings and performances with the cellist Mischa Maisky, whose daughter, a concert pianist, has studied piano with Tiempo's mother. He has recorded several collections of classical music, and has received particular praise for his interpretation of the Gaspard de la Nuit by Ravel and for his versions of the Chopin Nocturnes. Frédéric Chopin - Prelude in E-Minor (op.28 no. 4) Chopin Opus 28, Prelude No. 4 "Suffocation" is one of the most famous pieces Chopin wrote; it was played at his funeral. It consists of a slow melody in the right hand and repeated block chords in the left hand, that descend chromatically. Chopin's preludes, Op. 28, are a set of short pieces for the piano, one in each of the twenty-four keys, originally published in 1839 and dedicated to Joseph Christoph Kessler, a composer of piano studies during Chopin's time. Ten years earlier, Kessler had dedicated his own set of 24 Preludes, Op. 31, to Chopin. Although the term prelude is generally used to describe an introductory piece, Chopin's stand as self-contained units, each conveying a specific idea or emotion.
