Beethoven String Quartet in F major, op. 59, no. 1 - 2nd movement

Beethoven string quartet in F major, op. 59, no. 1, "Razumovsky" - 2nd movement Movement 2 - allegretto vivace e sempre scherzando Played by the Orford String Quartet: Andrew Dawes, violin Kenneth Perkins, violin Terence Helmer, viola Denis Brott, cello This is the first of the three "Razumovsky" quartets. These quartets were commissioned by Count Andreas Razumovsky, who was the Russian ambassador in Vienna. They mark the beginning of Beethoven's "middle period" for string quartets and were written at around the same time as his 4th symphony. They were quite a departure from earlier quartets and the initial response of many listeners and musicians at the time was negative. But today they are seen as among the best examples of string quartet writing in the classical/romantic repertoire.
