Rafael Druian, a violinist and conductor, died at the age of 80 in Philadelphia. Born in Russia, he grew up in Havana and later moved to Philadelphia. He studied under Amadeo Roldán and auditioned for Leopold Stokowski, who recommended him for a scholarship at the Curtis Institute of Music. After graduating in 1942, Druian served in the US Army for four years. He was also concertmaster for several orchestras including the Dallas Symphony and the New York Philharmonic.
