Bonney, Howells, Johnson & Roberts perform Haydn’s “Nelson Mass” Part lll Gloria ll. The soloists are Barbara Bonney (Soprano), Anne Howells (Mezzo Soprano), Anthony R. Johnson (Tenor), and Stephen Roberts (Baritone). Richard Hickox conducts the City of London Sinfonia and the London Symphony Chorus. The performance takes place at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.
Old St Paul’s Cathedral, also known as the fourth St Paul’s, was built by the Normans after a fire in 1087. Construction took over 200 years and was plagued by multiple fires. The cathedral was consecrated in 1240 but underwent enlargement starting in 1256. The final expansion was completed in 1314.
