The 1966 Salzburg Festival featured “Le Nozze di Figaro” with conductor Karl Böhm and cast members Walter Berry and Reri Grist. The festival, which regained prominence after World War II, focused on works by Mozart and Strauss, but also included performances of Verdi’s Falstaff and Beethoven’s Fidelio. After the death of Herbert von Karajan in 1989, director Gerard Mortier modernized the festival.
