About the composer…

George Gershwin was an American composer and pianist. Born on September 26, 1898, in Brooklyn, New York, Gershwin displayed his musical talents from a young age. He began his career as a pianist and quickly gained recognition for his unique style and improvisational skills. Gershwin’s compositions were a fusion of classical music and jazz, which set him apart from other composers of his time. His most famous works include “Rhapsody in Blue” and “An American in Paris,” which showcased his ability to blend different musical genres seamlessly.

Throughout his life, Gershwin composed numerous orchestral works, operas, and musicals, solidifying his position as one of the most influential composers of the 20th century. His compositions often reflected the spirit and energy of America during the Roaring Twenties, capturing the essence of the Jazz Age. Gershwin collaborated with his brother Ira, who wrote the lyrics for many of his songs, resulting in timeless classics such as “Summertime” and “I Got Rhythm.”

Sadly, George Gershwin’s life was cut short when he passed away at the age of 38 due to a brain tumor. However, his impact on the world of music continues to be felt today. His unique ability to merge classical music with popular styles like jazz has made him an enduring figure in the music industry. George Gershwin’s contributions as a composer have left an indelible mark on the world of classical music, making him an icon for aspiring musicians and composers alike.
