Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” Quartet in D minor, also known as String quartet no. 14, was written in 1824. The second movement is adapted from Schubert’s song “Death and the Maiden”. Ariel Dorfman’s play and Roman Polanski’s film, both titled “Death and the Maiden,” are named after this quartet.
