I was thrilled to discover a rare record by the highly collected Drolc quartet, even though it was warped and only the Quartettsatz (Movement for String Quartet Deutsch 703) in C minor was playable. Despite this, I wouldn’t want to miss the excellent 8 minutes of Schubert playing, especially since it only cost me 50 eurocents. I personally de-clicked and eq-ed the record. Check out my website where I share classical LPs and 78rpm records that are out of copyright in the Netherlands. Updated every Friday: [website link]. Enjoy!
About the composer…

Schubert’s musical career was marked by both successes and challenges. While he gained recognition among his peers and was admired for his melodic gift, he struggled to gain financial stability and secure a steady income from his music. Nevertheless, Schubert’s compositions were highly regarded by his contemporaries, and he had a profound influence on the Romantic era of music.
Some of Schubert’s most notable works include his Symphony No. 8 in B minor, also known as the “Unfinished Symphony,” and his song cycles such as “Die schöne Müllerin” and “Winterreise.” His compositions are characterized by their expressive melodies, rich harmonies, and emotional depth.
Despite his untimely death at the age of 31, Franz Schubert left behind a lasting legacy in the world of classical music. His works continue to be performed and admired by musicians and audiences around the world, solidifying his place as one of the most important composers in history.
